Proceeds from the 2009 Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction will fund five $1,000 and five $500 scholarships. All scholarship recipients will be recognized during the auction.

Awards $15,000 in Scholarships
The Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction Committee has announced the recipients of the 2008 Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction Scholarships. The Committee sponsored five $1500 scholarships, five $1000 scholarships and five $500 scholarships.
The winners of the $1500 scholarships are Kally Bockenhauer, daughter of Scott & Shari Bockenhauer, Mindoro, Adam George, son of Paul & Barbara George, Brooklyn, Lindsey Langer, daughter of Randy & Sue Langer, DeForest, Kelsi Retallick, daughter of Kevin & Keri Retallick, Glen Haven, Sheena Rhiner, daughter of Kermit & Jana Rhiner, Poynett. This year’s winners of the $1000 scholarships are Kaley Bockhop, daughter of Kevin & Michele Bockhop, Belmont, Kayla Greenwood, daughter of Mark & Cheryl Greenwood, Mineral Point, Rebecca Keel, daughter of Steve & Laurie Keel, Juneau, Kristin Shafer, daughter of Debra Schafer, Madison, Danielle Wittmann, daughter of Brian & Diana Wittman, New Glarus. Brittany Athey, daughter of Mark & Brenda Athey, Oconto Falls, Brittany Lucht, daughter of Todd & Patti Lucht, Antigo, Justin Wedig, son of Joe & Kim Wedig, Darlington, Jodi Wilhelm, daughter of Jeffrey & Maria Wilhelm, Birnamwood, and Kyle Zimdars, daughter Audrey & David Zimdars, Ripon, all were awarded $500 scholarships.
Given on an annual basis, the recipients are recognized for their leadership skills, academic achievements, accomplishments as Wisconsin State Fair Junior Livestock exhibitors and potential as future contributors to the livestock industry. The awards are used to assist them with their educational expenses.
The Mission of the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction Committee is to educate and encourage youth exhibitors to produce high quality livestock that will provide wholesome and nutritious products, to provide a platform for enhancing and strengthening the agriculture community of Wisconsin, and to foster better understanding of the agriculture industry throughout our society.
Premier Exhibitor
Junior exhibitors, ages 16-19, showing in beef, sheep and swine, are eligible to compete for this honor. Contestants compete in Showmanship, 25 Question – Livestock Industry Quiz, Skillathon, Media Contest and Livestock Judging. The Premier Exhibitor Contest is sponsored and coordinated by the Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction Committee.
Camp Of Champions

The Camp of Champions has been designed to enhance the educational experience for junior beef, sheep, and swine exhibitors whose animals have been selected for the auction. The exhibitors are required to stay with their animals through the end of Wisconsin State Fair and the Camp of Champions gives them the opportunity to share knowledge and accurate agricultural information with Fairgoers.
Wisconsin Livestock Breeders Association Livestock Show Camp and Master Stockman Education Fund
Both programs receive financial grants awarded by the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction Committee and Wisconsin State Fair Park Youth Foundation.
WLBA’s Livestock Show Camp is held annually at Wisconsin State Fair Park. Since its beginning, over 600 Wisconsin Youth have participated in this hands-on experience in showmanship techniques, fitting – preparing their animals for showing, ethics, management skills and livestock evaluation.
The Master Stockman scholarships are awarded to Wisconsin Youth participating in beef, sheep and swine. Three Master Stockman scholarships as well as three additional runners-up scholarships are presented at the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction. The recipients are recognized for their academic and their involvement in the livestock industry.
Your auction dollars support over 1,000 youth from all across Wisconsin as they strive to raise outstanding livestock. The Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction committee funds grants to award the Reserve Champion winners here at the Wisconsin State Fair, Showmanship winners and the Performance Lamb contest. The Mineral Point and Dodgeville FFA members received a grant to fund the distribution of biosecurity kits at their annual show. The Wisconsin Sheep Breeders Cooperative benefit from auction proceeds and host educational activities and present scholarships with their grant money. Other projects and activities will be funded in the future.
